GENERAL JM KEEVY

Commissioner of the South African Police from 1962 to 1968

General JM Keevy
General JM Keevy is one of Gill College’s renowned alumni. He joined the S.A. Police in 1929 and obtained officer’s rank in 1934. He acquired the BA Degree (Economy) in 1951. He was the Commissioner of Police from September 1962 to September 1968. He was the last Lieutenant General to become Commissioner before being promoted to the rank of General.  He opened the “new” SA Police Museum in Pretoria on 23 September 1968.

  • Johannes Marthinus Keevy sluit gedurende 1929 by die polisie aan.
  • In 1934, vyf jaar ná aansluiting, verwerf hy die kommissierang.
  • Verwerf BA (Ekonomie).
  • Hy het baie gedoen om landsveiligheid te verseker. Tydens sy termyn het die Rivonia-saak en die inhegtenisneming van adv. Bram Fischer groot berusting gebring.
  • Was die laaste luitenant-generaal om kommissaris te word. • Op 23 September 1968 open genl. J.M. Keevy die nuwe polisiemuseum in Pretoria.
  • Generaal Keevy is oorlede op 72 jarige leeftyd.

Genl. Keevy is op 14.9.1908 te Somerset-Oos gebore, het op 7.2.29 by die Mag aangesluit en was op die volgende plekke gestasioneer:
  • S.A.P. Kollege, 
  • Ganskuil, 
  • Boons, 
  • Rustenburg, 
  • Potchefstroom, 
  • Krugersdorp, 
  • Pietersburg, 
  • Ermelo, 
  • Heidelberg, 
  • Durban, 
  • Kwartiermeester en 
  • S.A.P. Hoofkantoor.
​Op 19.12.36 is hy met mej. Marthina Johanna Maria Stolz in die huwelik bevestig.
Die volgende medaljes is aan hom toegeken:
  • Koningsmedalje;
  • S.A. Polisiester vir Verdienste; 
  • S.A.Polisiemedalje vir Troue Diens; 
  • Afrika Diensmedalje en 
  • S.A. Polisiester vir Voortreflike Diens.
